Fun Loops!

This picture is made with the pink/purple combination and the pink/black combination.  I made them as one.
That is, with one closure.  The kids like to wear multiples of these at a time.

This is a simple single bracelet I made using two shades of blue.

I picked up 300 'Fun Loops" in a bag for only .99!  Included in each bag are the closures to hold each bracelet together.  This is super easy to do.  Full instructions are on www.orientaltrading.com/funloops   Be sure to check it out!  You have to scroll down to the bottom of the page for the directions.

The things little kids will say!!

On Saturday evening, I was watching a friend of mines kiddos.  She has a third grader, a first grader and a preschooler.  The first grader had a friend over.  While I was cooking dinner, the little friend and the first grader poked their heads around the kitchen corner and the little friend said to me I look like her grandma, we both have grey curly hair and glasses!  Way to poke a BIG hole in someone's bubble!!  Oh well.  The kicker was when the little girls grandma came over to get her.  Her grandma knocked on the door and when I went to the door there stood a lady with a COMPLETE head of grey hair.  I thought I hope my hair isn't that grey!!  Anyway, I got a kick out of the whole thing!

The Cat's Meow

This is a crazy cat toy!  Well worth looking for!  I finally found it at an As Seen on TV store.  My 4 love it!  In the picture you can only see one of them playing with it but the others are nearby.  It runs on 3 C batteries and keeps them busy and happy.

Summery Cards

These are cards I created using a summer theme.  Butterflies and flowers always remind me of summer.  This year, I've had a hard time getting butterflies to come to my yard.  The flowers are having a hard time right now too because of the heat and humidity.  As for me, I like to stay indoors now!!   Hope the weather is tolerable for you!!

Tea Bag Folding

These are cards I made using various tea bag folding techniques.  Tea Bag folding is a lot of fun once you get started.  Definitely something to look into if you haven't already.

cards

These are cards I made using the faux lace technique.  The third picture is my favorite!  It's really a super simple technique that gives a Victorian look to the cards.  It's done using double sided stick tape, a piece of lace that you can use over and over again, and micro beads.  There are so many different looks that you can get from the same piece of lace, just placing it differently and using different beads.

Savings!

From January 1, 2013 to May 31, 2013 my savings equal $1,547.37!!

Always look at the adds!  I get them free in flyers that come in the mail and a free local paper that comes out once a week.  Well worth the time to look through.  I get alot of coupons that way and online too.  I trade coupons with friends I know that use certain products I don't use and they give me the coupons I use and they don't.  All free to do!!  The best way to me!!

Then a lot of stores have started offering 'cards' at no charge.  These are cards that you present at check out for an added discount on something that's on sale for only customers that have those cards, such as Walgreens.  At Walgreens, I present my 'Balance Rewards' card to get special sales and collect points on every purchase even at the pharmacy.  The points add up and you get an addition $5.00 off your purchase.  I find the Walgreens card pretty handy.

Petco has a free card that after a $100 in purchases, you get a coupon for a free bag of dog or cat food.  Since I have 4 cats, they eat plenty so I figure I might as well take advantage of that offer too.  It adds up quicker than you think if you have pets.

Another card I love is The Body Shops 'Love Your Body' card.  Not only is The Body Shop a fair trade company, but they have good prices too and no animal testing!  With the card, I always save at least $45 on every visit and it's for items that I would buy anyway.  Things like skin care, make up, lotions, shampoos.  Why not get some of them for free!!  You also get points.  After the first 4 points you get a coupon and after 8 points you get an even larger coupon!  Then you start over.  It's super easy and my friends and family like to get The Body Shop treats as gifts!  That savings and points applies even if you prefer to shop online.  Just register the card online and your all set.

The Sally Beauty Club is another card that I use when looking for nail polishes, hair dyes, etc.  They have a pretty good offer to.

The Game Stop Power Up Rewards Pro card helps alot too!  Every month my son gets to read the magazine that they send to our home about all the newest games, etc.  I also get extra special trade in prices and the points add up quickly that I can spend at their online store.  Sometimes, it's coupons to spend in the store and sometimes it's things that are shipped directly to my house at no charge for the shipping or the item.

Then I have my Starbucks card!!  I love Starbucks so it's a great deal for me!  You can earn a free drink after purchasing 10 drinks or food items.  My husband and son also love Starbucks so it makes for a wonderful treat for us!!

Oh there is the Target 'Redcard' which I love!!  It gives you a percentage off your entire purchase!!  It may seem like a small percentage but now-a-days every penny counts.  Plus, Target sends me lots of coupons in the mail.

I'd love to hear about any ways that you save money!  Please share your ideas with us!!

Origami

These are two pieces I made using origami.  One is a little box and the other is a flower.  I've had  trouble with origami in the past however I've been working on it!  I'm up for more!!

I have some cards to post too that I've been working on.  I'll post those later though.

People

I wonder sometimes about people.  Why some people have to swear all the time, is beyond me.  Does is make them feel important or something?   Maybe there is a reason that those people aren't liked but they think it's everybody else.  They never see that it's them!

Then there is the mid-life crisis...is it real or just an excuse to do things that they don't get away with otherwise?  I'm leaning to the excuse for doing what they want.

To me, it's just annoying.

Super Easy Wind Chimes

This a super simple wind chime I made.  It's made with 3 sizes of clay flower pots, twine, and wood balls.  It's quick but sounds wonderful outside!

Friday, May 03, 2013

This is an 11x14 canvas that I made.  "You are unique and if that is not fulfilled then something has been lost."  is a quote by Martha Graham that I decided to put onto a canvas and play with little.  I framed it and added a scarf that I crocheted to it.

recycled wind chimes

This a wind chime I made from what I had around the house.  Bottle caps, which I put decorator paper inside and then used modge podge, sea shells that were given to me, old beads I had around the house, some left over jingle bells from Christmas, and I took apart a strand that was used for decoration around the house, that had broken.  Oh and some old popsicle stickes were used.

This picture is a close up.
I'm going to put this outside so it can chime away!!  It should stop raining in afew days so I'll have to wait til then.

A flower

I made the above flower with a punch!  I used a punch to punch out the original shape, shown above in the first picture.  I glued two of the original punched shapes together slightly staggered.  Then I rolled the two punched pieces together to form a flower

Bracelets

The first bracelet I made using bicone shaped beads and small round beads.  The second bracelet I made I used clear round beads, small black beads and in the center of the bracelet, I placed a finding that I had.  I think the second bracelet looks fancier.   The pattern I used is from my Spotted Canary Instructors board for a class I can teach.

Shopping Tips

Here is some more on the grocery saving tips.  Shop the Perimeter of the store FIRST!  It's easy.  That would include the following sections:  fruits and vegetables, meat, and dairy.  This means that you avoid the boxed and frozen products.  Those tend to have lots of calories and preservatives in them and they cost more for the convience of cooking them.  I know, that's a lot more in the preparation department on your part, however try freezer meals.  I prepare my meats, be it chicken, beef, pork, or seafood as soon as I buy it.  I add the spices and oils, etc. to the meat in a freezer bag that I label.  This allows the meat to marinate.  Then freez it.  Then I get the bag out of the freezer the evening before and place it in the frig.  That way, all I have to do the next day is cook it and add a side dish that would go well with it.  Easy!!

I have a website with lots of great recipes you can try out at www.mywildtree.com/dotalcorn   Just click on the "recipes" tab on the top of the page.  You can substitute any protein/meat that you happen to have.

Here's  a quick freezer recipe that my family loves!

Sesame Fusion Chicken

In a freezer bag add:
4-6 chicken breasts cut into cubes
3 green onions, chopped
1/2 cup Garlic Grapeseed Oil
1/2 cup Pacific Fusion
4 Tbsp. Sweet Onion Spread  (my hubby likes this on his sandwiches as a spread too)
2 tsp Garlic Galore
1/2 cup white wine
1 Tbsp sesame seeds

Mush the bag of ingredients together and freeze.

When ready to use, take out of the freezer the evening before and put in the frig.  The next evening for dinner bake at 350 for about 25 minutes.  While it's baking, make a side and dinner is ready!!

Interesting websites

Ever wonder what the toxicity levels of the products you use is?  Kind of scary but definitely very real!  Ingredients are used all the time because they are cheap.  Not good for the consumer but cheap to use to make whatever the manufacturer is producing.

Enter your current products at  http://cosmeticdatabase.com  to find out their toxicity levels.  This is a non-profit site that is managed by healthcare professionals to help consumers shop wisely.  It is very interesting to see what is really in the products that you use and what they can do to you over time.

Other names for Formaldehyde that I've found are Quaterium 15, which is found in foundations, powders, concealers, bronzers, make-up removers, eye shadow, mascara, sun screens, lotions, moisturizers and shampoos.

Other names for Formaldehyde are:  Formalin, Methanal, Methyl Aldehyde, Methylene Oxide, Oxymethelene, Diazalidinyl Urea and Imidazolidinyl Urea.

check out the website www.storyofstuff.org/cosmetics just for fun too!

Happy Valentines Day!

I've been married now for 23 years, so Valentines Day is more of an everyday thing now.  Nomore big surprises on a specific day, just year round stuff.  I really prefer the year round stuff to just a special day anyway.

Anyway, I decided this morning to total my year to date savings!!  January 1st thru today, February 14th...and the total savings is $395.43!!  Gotta love those coupons, store sales and weekly advertisements!!  I'm so happy about that!!  (That savings is on everyday items I would buy anyway.  Why not save!!  Food for the people, cat food, cleaning supplies, etc.)

Hope everybody enjoys their Valentines Day!!

Rebates!

If you haven't tried www.ebates.com you should!!  Big savings and a rebate from them to go with it!!  It has turned out to be a great money saver for me!!  It does require that I think in advance for what I'll need but it's well worth it.

Necklace

It's freezing outside today, so I decided to make a necklace.  It has three strands of crocheted wire with beads added in.  It was definitely a lesson in patience!

Yeah 2013!!

Well it's official!  I'm a Spotted Canary School Instructor, a Wildtree Consultant, a MOPPETTS coordinator, mom, wife, sister, friend, aunt, owner of 4 cats and who know what all else!!

I'm very excited about being a Certified Spotted Canary School Instructor!!  In case you aren't familiar with Spotted Canary, they are a craft company.  I will be teaching, stamping, jewelry making, etc.  My certificate is on the way and should arrive within afew weeks!

I am also joining Wildtree!  Wildtree is a company that I will be teaching cooking classes with.  I'm not a very good cook so any thing that can make me look like I know what I'm doing in the kitchen is good for me!  My family actually likes what I cook now!!  I didn't think they would eat any of it but much to my surprise they love it!  So I'm all for it!  The company products contain NO preservatives, additives, nuts, MSG's or dies.  Who would guess that my family would like things that were good for them!

Well, I've got lots to learn and will share more once I get started!!
