Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark...

I buy expensive ant killer from the local hardware store and put it out in the yard. It doesn't do any good! It is not good for my family or pets to be around! It's poison for goodness sake! So I try the old fashioned way of doing things...Cinnamon to stop ants. IT WORKS WONDERFULLY! No poisons needed! Plus, cinnamon is in my house and does not cost a fortunate!! Even better!!

New Scam to watch for and stay away from!!

The company is called MPB Today.

They are spreading via internet and mass mailings. I know about this scam first hand because it just happened to me. A long time friend was laid off his job and started with this company. He emailed me about it, so I thought I would help him out and try it. Well, he didn't know much about it either, but I tried it out anyway.

It's a company that wrote on it's paper work that I could order a $200 Walmart card or get $200 worth of groceries from their online store. So I wanted the gift card. I signed up and waited afew days and didn't hear from them so I emailed them and asked them for my Walmart card. They said I could NOT have my Walmart card yet. I had to cycle. I asked what that meant and they said I would need to sign up 6 other people to participate in their program and that then they would send me my Walmart card. I wasn't happy about that because then they earned interest on my $200 in the meantime. So I asked for my groceries. I went to their website and picked light weight items (to keep the cost of shipping down) and non-perishable items from the 20-25 pages that they listed.

My items arrived via Fed Ex and I wondered how tiolet paper and paper towels, etc, could weigh so much! Well, I unpacked the boxes to find that they had shipped nothing that I had ordered! I checked the packing list to be sure my name and address were on it thinking that maybe they had mixed up the orders. My name and address was on the packing list! I told them that I would NOT except any of the products they had sent and that was when they told me that if they don't have the items I wanted in stock that they will pick other items that they feel are 'close' to what I wanted and send those!

Well, I said I wanted call tags for the boxes because I was not going to pay to send them back, so they did agree to give me call tags and give me back the cost of my shipping, which was almost an additional $50.

They said that they would resend my groceries items to me but I told them that I did NOT want anymore products from them since they could not guarentee my items would actually ship. I did get my money back because I said that if I did not I would call the Better Business Bureau. Now that I have gotten my money back I am still going to call the Better Business Bureau.

I decided that a tin that I couldn't decide what to do with and turn it into a Fall decoration. I used microbeads from Penny Wise Arts around the edge of the lid. Since I didn't have any sticky back canvas, which seems to be the newest thing, I used a glossy sticker sheet instead.

So glad to be home!! I love to get away but coming home is nice too!! These birds were everywhere! We never saw any seagulls, which I thought was funny considering we were on the ocean! I see more seagulls at home...we call them parking lot gulls. Anyway, the scenery was just amazing. The alligator sign was definitely not anything that we see around home! Never did see an alligator but was told they were around.

I created this by embossing the main image. It says, 'The cat could very well be man's best friend but would never stop to admitting it.' I did the border using Zentangle techniques and matted it with a piece of black cardstock that I used one of the new Fiskars corner-border combination punches to create.

OK! January was purging month. I went thru every drawer and closet! Every inch of this house! There is going to be one big garage sale this spring! Not to mention all that was just thrown out. My garbage men must have thought we were moving!

Anyway, February is scrapbooking month for me!! I've already begun to get my photos ready! Next week, I'm off to the craft store and lunch with my mom! She got me started making jewelry now! Another fun craft to add to the list.

Yes, in the middle of brand new houses there are 3 Emu's, a llama and a horse!! It is the funniest thing to see! My son was actually 'talking' to the emu's and they were walking next to the fence with him! The llama is quite a character and the horse just wants lots of attention!! I never knew they were right here until a friend of mine got lost on her way to my house and told me about the animals. It's really worth seeing!

My niece, Vicky had the most unique candle on her birthday cake! I had never seen anything like it. It started off closed, pic on left, the special candle that went in the middle of the flower reminded me of a sparkler. It lit the smaller candles which appeared as the candle opened, pic on right. All the while, the flower spun around and played the tune to Happy Birthday!

So many kids, no time to create! Summer is the time of year that we have sleep overs with the cousins. I have had as many as 7 kids and then again no kids, not even my own son! (My house only has 1 bathroom! There has been a line sometimes! Quite long at that!) It has been a lot of fun! I do all kinds of special things with the kids, from movies to just going to the neighborhood park. With school starting soon, it's time to get back in the swing of things and settle down again. Time for shopping for school clothes!

Although, I have been doing some reading and here's a quote from John Ortberg's book, If You Want To Walk On Water, You've Got To Get Out Of The Boat. "Failure is not an event, but rather a judgement about an event. Failure is not something that happens to us or a label we attach to thing. It is a way we think about outcomes."

An interesting point he made about failure is that Winston Churchill failed a year in grade school. Winston Churchill said in regards to this, "I never failed anything in my life. I was given a second opportunity to get it right."

Maybe we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves and should try Winston Churchill's thinking instead.

House Rules for Dogs and Cats!

NASCAR did not design the stairway. It is not a racetrack. Trying to beat me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me will not help you win because I will fall faster than you can run!

A king-sized bed is the largest that is made. I cannot get anything bigger. Do not expect me to continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort.

Dogs and cats are capable of curling into a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular next to each other and stretched out to the fullest extent possible!

There is no secret exit from the bathroom! If by some miracle I manage to beat you there and get the door shut, it is not necessary to whine, meow, claw, try to turn the doorknob, or squeeze your paw under the door to try to pull it open. I have to exit through the same door I entered.

Also, I have been using the bathroom for many years--feline or canine attendance is not required!

There is a blog that I enjoy written by a friend of mine named Kris, her blog is http://art-interrupted.blogspot.com, and she has started doing Gratitude Mondays. I like her idea and have decided to do it to. There is alot to be thankful for and alot we take for grant it. Boy do I know it!!

First of all, I'm grateful for my dog's health. He is almost 16 years old and was having some 'old' dog issues, but the vet said yesterday that everything looked good, just to watch him.

Secondly, I'm thankful for my home, my family and friends.

Thirdly, I'm thankful for the firemen in our town and their quick response and willingness to check out a situation that I thought I had under control but needed that reassurance of. I decided to bake a dessert that I hadn't made in awhile. I put the two glass baking pans in the oven. About half way thru baking one of the glass baking dishes broke into pieces spilling half baked batter all over the bottom of my gas oven. I was trying to clean it up when some of the batter that had run down into the area where the gas comes out caught on fire. I put it out but needed that reassurance that everything was OK. Thankfully, just a big mess, no damage.

I hope everybody can think of something to be thankful for today.

Well, since the cone wasn't working out very well and after some quick thinking, we came up with clothing! It works! She is leaving the stitches alone! Of course, most of the night we were up because she figured out how to take the outfit off! She took it off and I put it back on! I think that she has finally given up, realizing that I'm going to keep putting it back on her no matter how many times she takes it off! Who knows, maybe she'll end up liking clothes and next time you see us she'll have on cute dress!!! In the meantime, my Danny is jealous because she is getting extra attention due to her surgery!

This is our Toni Lynn, after she came home from the vet after being spayed. She immediately decided to try to remove her stitches herself! The result...the cone! She hated that thing! She would only walk backwards while wearing it!

I just received my copy of 'Blood Stained, When No One Comes Looking', by Dory Maust. It is a true story about David Maust, the Hammond Indiana Serial Killer. Dory is no relation to David and makes that clear. The book is based on David's own autobiography that he wrote in prison with the help of his attorney, Thomas Vanes, and the arresting officer, Ron Johnson.

I worked with David at the Trophy Shop in Dolton for several years. I worked with him the day of his arrest, too. One of the victims, Nicholas James, also worked at the shop with us.

It was a very difficult time. David told us 'his life story' according to what he wanted us to believe and it was very hard to see him on the evening news that day, shackled and to hear the REAL story. Even worse to realize that he had killed Nick!

I can hardly put the book down! It is very well written!

25 Random Things About Me (some pretty, some not so, but all me)

I have been tagged by my good friend Katharine to share 25 Random Things about me. Here goes!
25 Random Things:
1. I have one son who I am very proud of and my desire for him is grow into a good person!
2. I love paper crafts of all sorts!
3. I have a guinue pig named Shadow, who is about 1.5 years old.
4. I have 3 cats! Yes, I must be crazy but there are 3 of them. All with very different personalities. All rescues. I love them all!
5. I have a dog who is 15 years old!! He is spoiled rotten and is definitely my boy!! He has been a wonderful protector for all those years but now it is time for me to be his protector!!! (I think I am scarier than he is anyway!)
6. I left my job of 25 years in December of 2006! Yeah!!!
7. I wish I knew then when I was much younger, what I know now!
8. I am working on redoing my sons baby scrapbook because it has the sticky pages that were so popular back then. (That probably is dating myself)
9. I just finished a flip book all about my animals!
10. I really enjoy my coffee time once a week with my friend! We love to sip Starbucks and chat!11. I am waiting for the arrival of my new book about the Hammond Indiana Serial Killer, David Maust who I worked with. I was the manager of the shop when he was arrested. He killed a member of my crew, 19 year old, Nick James on the Memorial Day weekend of that year.
12. I have been asked by my husband to keep his secret that almost ended our marriage of 18 years.
13. I have read a book called 'When People Are Big and God Is Small' that I would recomment to everybody!!!!
14. When I got my dog, I went to the pet store for fish food and came home with my dog!
15. We used to live in Norfold, VA. while my husband was in the Navy.
16. I am going to paint my house this year. Last year, I redid my sons bedroom, which took more than I expected!
17. I have almost always lived in South Holland. My parents moved here when I was in second grade and the only time I left was when my husband was in the Navy. We did live in the neighboring town for afew years.
18. Our newest cat, the only other girl in my house, can really get herself into a lot of trouble!
19. My cats really like to talk!!!!
20. When I grew up my grandparents on my dad's side lived on the family farm in MO, where I spent alot of summers.
21. Because of spending so much time on the farm, I am a better shot than my husband who was trained in the Navy.
22. My grandfather on my mother's side was disowned by our family.
23. My grandmother on my mom's side is missed very much now that she is gone.
24. I miss all of grandparents very much! My son did get a chance to meet them all before they passed on, which I am very glad of!
25. I think someday I'll write a book!

This is the Flip Book that I started just before we adopted our last fur child! I had to stop making it until I had some pictures of her to add to the book.

I got the Flip Book idea from my friend Beth's blog. Her blog is Nana's Memoried and More. She picked up the idea from a tutorial on Paper Craft Planet by Jessice Fick.

It is a fun and easy project that yields great results! It is hard to photograph, so I hope you get the general idea.

I was looking for a pet poem for my flip book that I'm making and ran across this and laughed so hard! I just had to publish this! My flip book will be finished soon and I will post pics of it on my blog. But here's the letter I couldn't stop laughing over!

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw prints belong to you and contain your food. The rest of the dishes belong to me and contain my food.

Please note, if you put a paw print in the middles of my plate or food, that does not stake a claim for it. It is still mine. I also do not find it aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

NASCAR did not design the stairway. It is not a racetrack. Trying to beat me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me will not help you win because I will fall faster than you can run.

A king-sized bed is the largest that is made. I cannot get anything bigger, sorry about this. Do not expect me to continue to sleep on the cough to ensure your comfort.

Dogs and cats are capable of curling into a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular next to each other and stretched out to the fullest extent possible.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I manage to beat you there and get the door shut, it is not necessary to whine, meow, claw, try to turn the doorknob, or squeeze your paw under the door to try to pull it open. I have to exit through the same door I entered.

Also, I have been using the bathroom for many years -- feline and/or canine attendance is not required.

This was taken today out my living room window! That lump in the front of the picture nearest the window is my bush, the rest is pretty flat after all my flowers die out.

I remember living in Norfolk, VA. many years ago when my husband was in the Navy and it snowed! Just a dusting but I was still one of the only ones who went to work that day! They closed everything! It was the only time I went to the grocery store and it was completely wiped out of food!!! When I asked one of the employees what was wrong, they said that everybody had come the night before when the snow was predicted!

Freezing In Midwest!!

Here, outside of Chicago, it may look beautiful when you look out the window, however the temperature will make you think differently!! At a balmy 11 degrees this morning, we are at a high for the last two days! My son had school both yesterday and today! Most schools in the area were closed to due extreme cold temps. Well, we won't have to make up those two days!!!

All of my fur children have been snuggly so I've been plenty warm!

This is Toni Lynn! She is about 6 months old. From the picture you can tell that she already picked her human! My son!! He is loving that!! Toni Lynn is doing well with our other boys also! Now we are up to one dog, three cats, a guinea pig and a tank of fish.

I needed a quick 'Thinking of You" card for a friend, so I came up with this design.

I used the tulip stamp from The Stamping Studio and the words are from SU!

Those are micro beads on the left side. They are from Penny Wise Arts.

The card on the bottom of the below picture has a moose brad off to the left. It's kind of hard to see in the photo. It was a birthday card for my uncle. The Thank You card was made for another uncle who was very generous to Matt at Christmas and for his birthday.

I liked the color combination.
